Winemaking has been a part of Marin history since the late 19th century. One of the earliest sites in Northern California for recorded winemaking was in Marin. In 1870 Mission San Raphael was making wine, predating winemaking in the Napa Valley. For many years there was little winemaking in Marin but now we have seen a resurgence.

Award winners have sprung up left and right as vintners discover the magic of the Marin climate and wine. Perhaps one of the best wines produced in Marin is Pinot Noir, but Merlot and other varietals are also grown.

Some winemakers grow and produce Marin Wine even though their main facilites are in Napa or Sonoma, like Coppola or Dutton Goldfield. Coppola produces a Pinot from grapes grown at Skywalker ranch. And yes, it is out of this world!
